Round 11 Summer 2018 Results

The winner's circle pic of the week features Crazy Breakers and Pickled Hot Shots.

As you see, the smiling faces of both teams, give nothing away to say any team lost out on having fun.

On the ladder, the battle for positions is so close too. With just 3 and for some only 2 rounds to go it seems everyone knows how to win matches but more interesting this season is how teams concentrate on winning games too. They all know even if they have lost a set or a match on the night the games still count.

Winning matches keep it all focused and fun. Its the same with sets to win a match. But the games, in the end, will again decide most ladder positions this season. And that's making it so exciting.

To add to the thrill, we saw one team, on Monday this week who had already lost their match at the 4th set, then playing their hearts out to win more games to keep their chances alive for a trophy position. The other team once they had won at the 4th set saw some of their players leave soon after, so their opponents clawed back. I will be interested to look back at season end to see if that cost them a chance for a trophy.

Another top team told us they knew they had a bye making it hard to predict, so they just went all out to win everything right down to the last game Thate meant even after they had won the majority of sets for the match win at some point, they still did not let up.

The races within races are all up for grabs too. They are not only for top 3. but the 3 or 4 in below are in battles for a 4th place or runner-up. The inevitable battle that just 2 or 3 teams face is one to stay off the bottom. Each group is close, with some teams still able to upset or advance which is making it so exciting, with no one safe yet.

Please check your results detail on the Live Ladder. We will lock results after the round 13 catchups so make sure you don't have any last minutes scoring issues unresolved We will also resolve if any playoffs might be needed because of the dropouts that left uneven play positions.

Captains, please make sure your team fees are paid We still have a few teams who are still not financial.

Snapshots of results follow. Please note #N/A. means no scores posted or the match deferred. Catch-ups and scheduled dates are as listed at the foot:

Next Matches

As shown on the ladder by the team here also are the next matches as paired

Here also are the next 3 rounds

Catch-Ups
Please start planning for you catchups. Remember, if matches are agreed and not played the team defaulting will forfeit the match to their opponent.

Any matches with no agreed dates or advice after 7 days of the schedules data will default against both teams.
Even though it is the home team captain's first responsibility to advise CERROS of the match results or another status by 10am the day after the match, both captains are responsible to sign off before the next round once results are made public.

Any defaulting are deemed not to have played all matches and are therefore excluded from Trophy qualifying.

All of these rules have been in place for a long time so we all know them by now. We do gove a lot of latitudes as we always have new teams and new captains who have not been thru a full cycle
But in the end, we must all conform so please help the new teams and captains to do this.

Keeping it all in check procedurally reduces the issues and does help maintains respect for our social self-regulating model so it is always fun

Here are the matches still pending :
Knockout Series The Knockout Cup series will start on July 9 and be played over several elimination rounds and finals. We will draw the first round teams, during the catchup week. We will send out separate communication with more details once we have finalised a venue and the day best to suit most

Moderation Drop Out Re-arrangements

Moderation teams dropping caused a fixture  imbalance, so changes made as follows .
  • Monday Day and Night team has now moved from 8 Ball to Mixed Blue to Moderation slot. That restores the 8 Ball Bye and the status quo is still 6 teams in 8 Ball
  •  The Monday Day and Night vs Ice Breakers Monday match is now a friendly so Ice Breakers don’t have a % age advantage with an extra match others won't get.
  • Wednesday Day and Night is now moved to Moderation slot in the same Blue comp. That slot is paired with their now Monday slot to balance on their table.
  • Having played Club 15 as a league match from the bye position that match is deemed that match and score as a round 11 match which is scheduled on that slot. The catch up with Pickled Hot Shots for round 1 is booked for after round 13.
Congratulations to both teams for nail biter The CF-CLUB 15 vs DAY & NIGHTresult was 16 -17

    Next Matches  (Round 9)

    KNOCKOUT SERIES

We will be starting the CUP series, after round 14 last home and away league match. Todd Guest is the co-coordinator working with the rest of the committee and will advise more on that shortly.

    Scoring Explained

For new teams and players and those not clear our trophy qualifying is based on a composite Rank Score = Round Plays + Wins + Games Won %. This applies to all comps regardless of how we decide the round match win point. On Monday matches the round is awarded to the team with the majority of points awarded to the scored stages of the match played as discrete sets of games. Wednesday comps are an unstaged race with the winner the first to win 17 games. Season trophies are awarded to the teams with the most rounds won and most games won expressed as a rate.
Simply put 3 points make up a Trophy score. (row 6)  Each is awarded on separate criteria

    For each Round Played:
    Each team gets 1 point to measure continuous play. (row 5);
A Match win gets 1 for a win or 0 if not. (Row 2)
The games element is decimal value of games won of total games played %.age (Row 4)

For Monday Mixed and 8 Ball competitions, play is in sets. Points for these are weighted so matches are balanced on doubles and singles frames so a majority cannot be reached until at least 4 sets are played.
Games win ratios are combined with match win points each each round for ladder scoring, so all games and must be played.

Sets themselves are decided by majority of games won.The clean slate model to start the next set also makes it strategically fun.

Games on the other hand are measured in totality and added as a percent to the final match result so they count for the ladder

Knock Out Tournaments: The win on the night gets a team promoted. In Monday matches last season games did not count as a Knockout, unlike the round robin, is not a ranking system against the rest of the field.
Hence an option for a change sumbitted by 7 monday Captains last season after the CUP, is to combined the points and games so both points and game count for the match win against the opponent.

Round 7 Summer 2018 Results after Catch ups

With catch ups played to Round 7, all teams are in line on matches, so next half positions are clear for the run to the final. As always, please check your results.

    Forfeits

Catch-ups are important to let us play all matches and avoid forfeits. Once all efforts are exhausted and catch up still cannot be played, a forfeit is declared. This applied to Moderation who dropped out of Wednesday.  Their outstanding matches were forfeited to their opponent. Thay also get the show up credit for continuous play qualifying purposes.

In the event a team achieves is in trophy position after round 14, and leads by no more than the forfeit wins, playoffs between contending teams will decide the trophy awards. This lets us comply with our long standing convention that a team must play all matches (continuous play) and cannot win a trophy on a forfeit.

    Catch Up Fixture
This season we introduced a separate catch up week in the fixture. It seems to have worked well to restore the integrity of the playing order and ladder. Some teams, still eager to not miss out a night of pool fun, still showed for round 8 and played that match early.
Thanks go to everyone for being patient with those who had to defer, and for making the commitment to follow thru for them. Another catch up week is scheduled after round 13, so we can complete the season on time.

Next Round Notice with a New Format

Next week, commencing Monday May 14,  sees round 8 continue, where teams play each other at reciprocal venues for the 2nd half round robin matches.

Please note blue on location boxes on Wall fixtures means you play away this time. Individual team sheets are marked H or A on dated rounds

We have simplified the format of Next Match advice on the web. That's the one we update and send on Sunday after each round is closed. We now plan to send this out on Saturday.

    Individual Team Fixtures

As most know, individual team fixtures and progress are a drill down option from the ladder. These have been updated to show catch up and holiday weeks so it is more consistent to read. We will add the knockout rounds once known.

Navigation from to other menus is also included. Thanks to the Graham from Hustlers and others for the ideas to improve team pages for Captains to plan and share with their players.

    Score Sheets Completeness

Some score sheets are not being filled in properly with team and round numbers missing. This adds confusion when checking back. If you miss the 8 Ball you will be forgiven but if you miss the finals because of bad paperwork you won't.

We dropped the burden on both captains so only one needs to send a countersigned sheet. CERROS is done only by the host captain and is simple and easy to verify if the pictures are complete. The sign off box also has enough space to write all relevant info. Please help make this work to reduce confusion and unneeded admin.

    New Teams

Joining us at the halfway Mark we now welcome to DAY & NIGHT CAFE & SPORTS located at SOI 48 / 3 Sukhumvit. They are fielding a Monday 8 Ball and Wednesday Blue 9 Ball team to take up one of the bye slots. Being mid season they cannot participate in trophies but we look forward to including them in all other respects.

This is the first time we have added a new team mid season. We trust this will be a good way to ease new bars into our ranks at the half season mark to take the strain of the season change recess where pressure to fill gaps, make introductions and orient new team is potentially clumsy and time critical.
Matches played will be treated as friendlies for them. But for the rest of us scores when  playing DAY & NIGHT, will count for full trophy positioning.

Even though it is only half a season everyone will have a chance to play them to get a higher percentage. Those not able won't be penalized for no show  as long as you let them know good time. But then you will have no chance to gain ground either.

Some teams may have already planned a break on the the bye slot DAY & NIGHT took over, and cannot play, so please let them and the league know ASAP.

    KNOCKOUT SERIES
We will be starting the CUP series, after round 14 last home and away league match. Todd Guest is the co-coordinator working with the rest of the committee and will advise more on that shortly.

All Monday and Wednesday Red comp matches were  played. SOS, who had a bye, agreed with Country Road to move their round 8 match forward hence the SOS 17-10 win is already in the standings

Being mid season we will be discussing, as a league, any options we have to fill any gaps.

We are now starting to plan the CUP series, which should start after round 14 last home and away league match. Todd Guest is the co-coordinator.

To be complete at the half way mark, the catch-up matches 1-4 below are to be played next week before we begin round 8. Matches 5-7 which were deferred by Moderation will default to the opponent if we cannot find and alternative. In accordance with our rules,

Where default wins are awarded the match will be deemed played for qualifying purposes , However where may still be required to play off against the next lowest team to decide a trophy finals place.
